WHAT IS A COMPUTER?
As we have said, computers are very essential to our very lives. Being computer-proficient is a very important skill to be learned. Learning the language of computers is a very long, hard and trencherous path, since computers themselves are still changing and evolving. But what better way is there to learn anything than to define them. Therefore, a clear, concise and precise definiton of computers would be in order.
A computer, in its most basic definition, is an electronic device made to handle large amounts of data, be it numbers, letters, shapes, graphics, audio or video, analyze and process these data and output them in ways or means that we are capable of understanding and that are useful and workable.
Like many of our devices at home, the computer is an electonic device. It is powered by the technology of electricity. Thise electricity is accepted, controlled and regulated by a system of bodies, transistors, capacitors and integrated circuits, which make up most of the computers electronic components.
The computer is capable of handling thousands upon thousands of seemingly random data and can interpret this data into something that can be used. Examples of computers that can process a really large amount of data are the supercomputers used by the military. Enemy positions, weapons, and numbers are all inputted, millions and millions of data. And what comes out is analysis of those data, vital to the world security. These processes occur before you can even say ”Computer”. The wonders of technology never cease to amaze us!
A computer can carry out thousands of operations at the push of button, sort out data for easy access and do task repeatedly per the users instructions. It can also output the data in a sheet of paper or in a monitor, also the user’s discreation.
